The Bluestone Baptist Church was founded 1798 while John Adams was President of the United States.
The church was organized in the home of Josiah Meador in a double-log cabin with a dirt floor, situated on the Little Bluestone River.
The earliest available church minutes dating back to 1805, were discovered when the homes were torn down to build the Bluestone Dam. These records are kept in the archives in Morgantown, WV.
The earliest available organized book of church minutes resides with the church and begins in 1857.
In 1862, the Union Army marched through Jumping Branch, our church was the first building burned to the ground.
The church building burned to the ground once again in 1913. During this time, the congregation met at the JC Deeds Hall in Jumping Branch, WV until the current building was completed in 1915.
Since then, the church building has been remodeled and updated several times. The church is still active and thriving today with a rich history spanning more than 220 years!
